Glass formation, glass transition, nucleation, crystallization, and structure-property relations in vitreous solids; glass-ceramics for high temperature applications; phosphate oxynitride laser glasses; non-linear optical glasses; glasses for nuclear waste disposal; melt behavior and glass formation in low-and high-gravity; melt evaporation and growth of solid particles from vapor in low gravity; containerless processing of glass in space and on earth; synthesis and characterization of melt-processed oxide superconductors; use of glass microspheres for detection and identification of explosives.

 

 


Dr. Signo T. Reis, Assistant Research Professor
Structure-property in silicate and phosphate glasses; phosphate glasses for nuclear waste disposal; thermo analysis and spectroscopic characterization of amorphous materials; development of glasses and glass-ceramics for technological applications; new DTA method of measuring critical cooling rate for melts; deformation, stress relaxation, and crystallization of lithium silicate glass fibers below the glass transition temperature. 

 

 


Dr. Jinbo Yang, Research Professor
Magnetic, electronic and structural properties of technologically relevant materials such as nanostructured magnetic materials, solid fuel cell materials, and hydrogen storage materials.  Experimental and theoretical studies of structural, magnetic and electric properties of R(T,M)(R= rare earth, T= 3d metals, M=Si Al), Mn(Bi, Sb, Al), (R, Sr)(Fe, Mn)03, Fe-oxide thin films, solid fuel cell and hydrogen storage materials.  Development of nanomagnetic and superconductive materials and investigation of their properties.
